Wabtec is introducing a new heavy-haul locomotive model to Brazil’s freight rail market. The ES44ACi diesel-electric locomotive will first be delivered to Suzano, MRS and Rumo in the coming weeks.
Wabtec has been selected to modernize 330 GE Dash 9-44CW units for Norfolk Southern (NS). The new order will bring Wabtec’s total number of power upgrades for the Class I railroad to more than 950 upon completion of work in 2025.

For fourth-quarter 2021, Wabtec GAAP earnings per diluted share of $1.02 rose 121.7% from the prior-year period’s $0.46; adjusted, they were $1.18, up 20.4% from $0.98. Sales came in at $2.07 billion, a 2.4% increase over the 2020 quarter’s $2.02 billion. The company attributed this to “higher Freight segment sales, partially offset by Transit segment sales. During the quarter, we estimate that sales results were adversely impacted by 3%-4% due to supply chain disruptions.”
